CLARION CALL FOR CHOICE
Wearing the Choice Hotels EMEA franchising hat, Nick Barber is delighted to have signed the iconic 70 bedroom Charlecote Pheasant Hotel, situated just outside Stratford-upon-Avon, and owned and operated by Vine Hotels, to the Choice Hotels EMEA family. The hotel will be rebranded to ‘Clarion’ (Choice’s full service, upper midscale lifestyle brand, thoughtfully created, for engaged experience seekers), in spring 2024.
The Charlecote Pheasant enjoys an enviable location, balancing a charming rural village with easy accessibility Stratford-upon-Avon’s theatres and attractions, to Warwick Castle, and via the nearby historic Fosse Way to the Cotswolds. The hotel sits opposite the National Trust’s Charlecote Park, with its Tudor mansion, fallow deer (an ancestor was reputedly rustled there by William Shakespeare himself) and landscaped grounds for on the doorstep fitness. In addition to the 70 stylish rooms set across four buildings, the hotel offers a restaurant, bar, tennis court, meeting room facilities and event space, including the fully self-contained Hampton Suite; all with character and charm, deriving originally from a converted farmhouse. Clarion was re-launched by Choice into Europe in 2022.

PREMIER INN BIRKENHEAD TOWN CENTRE, CH41 5AP
2023 commenced with confirmation of completion (over Christmas), of the off-market purchase of the 67 bedroom Premier Inn Birkenhead Town Centre, for which NJBHLP provided research advice and assistance to the investment team at Edgerley Simpson Howe.
Converted from an office and enjoying a central town position within sight of a Mersey tunnel, Premier Inn Birkenhead Town Centre enjoys a strategic location, for both the Wirral peninsular and for Liverpool itself. With substantial parking on-site and Birkenhead offering competitive room rates, the hotel attracts custom from a wide radius and sources, with cross-river visitors to and from Liverpool (see photo) having a choice of road, rail and ferry routes, all highly accessible to the hotel. As a conversion, bedroom sizes at the hotel are varied, with many that are more spacious than for a new build PI, and the business also includes a Whitbread branded Thyme restaurant.
NJBHLP hotel acquisition research always includes a ‘tour of the town’ – running where possible - and for which Birkenhead rates highly in its features and landmarks. A short leg to the nearby Mersey Ferries terminal at Woodside gives historical glimpses of liners, tramways and the former railway terminus from London Paddington; a little further, the 226 acre Birkenhead Park, which opened in 1847, is recognised as the first such publicly funded urban space in the world, and the inspiration for New York’s Central Park (amongst others).
